So, how are things?

I'm still settling back into life in the States (ha, I love saying that!) and trying to get caught up on work - in both locations. I feel like I was gone for a full month.

I've got a bunch of minor trips lined up over the next six months or so, and so far most of them are only semi-business related! Yay! I'll be back in the midwest - Kansas City, Chicago, St. Louis, and Des Moines (at least) for a while, and then in Washington for a solid weekend.

Also, coming up quick I'm going to Vegas for a weekend, which I'm only semi-excited about... I don't plan on doing any gambling and am not a big fan of Vegas... but it's always fun to travel.

Also, President Obama is speaking at our graduation ceremony, which is awesome! Look for photos from that - I will be on the field right by the press box.

That's all for now. I'll also have some pics done processing this weekend and up on the main site, so sit tight :)

The United Kingdom and France

As promised, pictures and the backstory. First of all, one of the biggest reasons I made the trip across the pond was to shoot with Lara Jade! She's an amazing photographer and I've been wanting to work with her for ages.

Right now, you can find her work in this month's Digital SLR Magazine (http://www.digitalslrphoto.com/magazine/latest-issue.php), Colours Magazine (http://www.coloursmag.com/?p=433), and I don't know how many others featuring her work. Her personal website is http://www.larajade.co.uk/ - check her out. She's only 19 years old and has already accomplished a lot!

She made the several-hours-long journey down from Newcastle where she's currently based in northern England to her hometown of Tamworth, and I came up from London. We shot all around Tamworth - castle, fields, forest, alleyways - and we shot all day long. She's a busy girl and backlogged (as am I) so who knows when these pictures will become available. Shooting everywhere outside was a wonderful experience. Also, I got to meet her family - her mom and sisters are lovely and it was neat to finally be able to be face to face with the people who appear in her work from time to time.

London, as I've always maintained, is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and I can't wait to go back yet again. I had a lot of time there (for once - I never have enough time anywhere I go) but could have used more, and stayed in two different hotels - one in the western part of the city and one downtown. I got to visit the London Eye, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, the Picadilly Circus, and a ton of other places I'm too lazy to list off. I can't believe the amount of history in that part of the world. One of the churches I visited had parts of the building that dated back to 1100 AD and it was a very neat feeling to be around so many things that are so old.

Another thing I need to tell you about the Brits, in case you've not noticed - their sense of style is impeccable. For the duration of the trip, it was gorgeous to me and especially to the Brits for the time of year - about 60 degrees and partly sunny. That's still kind of cold to someone who has lived in Phoenix, but the things they were wearing and the clothing in the shops were unbelievable. I need to make another trip just to spend a couple weeks shopping!

I also made the trip to Paris on the underground train - it goes under the sea of the English Channel to the European mainland at about 200 miles per hour, and so you get to Paris in around two hours. It was very comfy and I liked it better than I figured I would. I stayed near the Gare du Nord in Paris and my hotel had a spectacular view and a cute little balcony quite a bit like the one Carrie had in Sex and the City while she was in Paris.

The highlight of the trip, aside from getting to shoot with a brilliant and getting-famous-fast photographer, was seeing the Louvre in Paris. I needed about three days to see it, but all I had was a few hours. It's huge and gorgeous and I fell in love right away. The Eiffel Tower was neat as well, and very busy. I also got to see the Arc de Triomphe and their amazing shopping district ;)

Can't wait for my next big trip, where ever it may take me!
